National Organ Playing Competition
Saturday, March 17, 2018; 1 p.m, Church Sanctuary
The First Presbyterian National Organ Competition began in 1960 and is the longest running national organ competition in the United States. Three finalists will be selected from the preliminary recordings to come to Fort Wayne to compete for three cash prizes.
The competitors are required to submit recordings of three pieces:
1) One of J. S. Bach's Six Sonatas (BWV 525-530)
2) A work in the Romantic Idiom
3) A contrasting work to the piece chosen for categories A and B
Three prominent organists from around the United States will judge the final competition.
The goal when the competition began was "to bring encouragement and public attention to the many fine young organists in the nation” which is still relevant today. Come and support these fantastic young organists!
